Introduction

In Brazil, açaí na tigela is a way of life — a thick, frozen bowl of blended açaí berries eaten at beach stands, juice bars, and breakfast tables across the country. Forget the watered-down versions you see elsewhere. A real Brazilian açaí bowl is thick enough to eat with a spoon, minimally sweetened, and topped simply with granola, banana, and a drizzle of honey.

Why You'll Love It

  • Only 3 ingredients for the base — açaí, banana, and a splash of liquid
  • Loaded with antioxidants and natural energy
  • Takes literally 5 minutes to make

Ingredients

  • 2 packs (200g) Frozen açaí pulp (unsweetened)
  • 1 Frozen banana
  • 3-4 tbsp Cold apple juice or coconut water
  • ½ cup Granola
  • 1 Banana, sliced (for topping)
  • 2 tbsp Honey or agave
  • 2 tbsp Shredded coconut
  • Handful Fresh strawberries, sliced

Equipment

  • High-powered blender
  • Bowl for serving

Instructions

  1. Break up the açaí — Run the frozen açaí packs under warm water for 10 seconds. Break them into chunks. This makes blending easier without adding too much liquid.
  2. Blend thick — Add açaí chunks, frozen banana, and just enough apple juice to get the blender moving. Blend on high, using the tamper to push ingredients down. The mixture should be VERY thick — like soft serve. If it's too liquidy, add more frozen banana.
  3. Serve immediately — Scoop the thick açaí into bowls. Top with granola, sliced banana, strawberries, shredded coconut, and a generous drizzle of honey. Eat immediately — it melts fast.

Tips

  • The açaí should be thick enough that a spoon stands up in it. If it's drinkable, it's too thin.
  • Use the minimum amount of liquid possible — you can always add more, but you can't take it back.

Variations

  • Protein Açaí Bowl: Blend in a scoop of vanilla protein powder and top with peanut butter and chia seeds.
  • Tropical Açaí: Add frozen mango to the blend and top with passion fruit pulp and toasted coconut.

Storage

Fridge: Does not store well — açaí bowls must be eaten immediately.

Freezer: You can freeze the blended mixture in portions to re-blend later.

Reheat: Not applicable — this is served frozen.

FAQ

Where do I buy frozen açaí?

Most grocery stores carry frozen açaí pulp packs (Sambazon is a common brand). Look in the frozen fruit section. Make sure to buy unsweetened for the most authentic flavor.

Why is my açaí bowl too thin?

You added too much liquid. Use frozen (not fresh) banana, and add liquid just a tablespoon at a time. A high-powered blender with a tamper tool works best.
